Estranged souls
This artwork is inspired by Carlos Morales’s beautiful piece, named Puzzled.
The visuals are my own personal spin on his work, capturing some lived moments that surfaced from Carlos's writing.
Puzzled
Tell me,
how did you do it?My heart...
just scrambled pieces of a monochrome puzzle.
But you?
smoothly put together, adjusted, unruffled.Tell me,
how do I stop hurting?I feel...
disconnected from everything, even myself.
And you?
so collected, so flawless, so wholly yourself.Just please...
tell me how to stop loving you...Hold on...
don’t.Let me,
stay here a minute or two...
looking away from my mess.Hold onto…
all the checkered memories
of all the you..
all the us
I'll miss.— Cae Rivas —
I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
There’s not much left to say, but I'd like to add that the way I feel about Carlos’s writing is like I'm witnessing a detective’s work. Every time I read one of his pieces, it feels like I’m following an investigator’s process. He has a gift for exploring the inner world in details. Each line feels like a magnifying glass held over the unspoken parts of life.
He’s chasing hidden trails, like a detective bent over buried bones, brushing the dust away one careful stroke at a time so nothing fractures or vanishes, feeling as if he’s investigating your inner crime scene.
I hope it won’t feel too creepy, but, well, darkness is inspiring…
In other words (for softer souls), he’s just amazing at spotting the tiniest and most subtle moments in life.
And that’s definitely an art!
If that spoke to you, please share the love and subscribe to Carlos’s newsletter.
You won’t be disappointed!

Wow, I'm simply speechless and honored. You're very talented, that's a beautiful piece of artwork I'm humbled to know my poem inspired it.
Thank you for that and for your kind words.
A gripping, lively, intelligent poeml both rooted in tradition and absolutely current. And hip: why give up style when all the lights might go out?
Perfect. Oodly, It evoked a smell from my childhood that made it feel visceral.
